edition:menschlichkeit
…They are beautiful books with important messages. They are made with love by people who are excluded from the first job market. They are based on real projects...
This is the idea behind the publications of edition:menschlichkeit.
These publications are based on a project of the Austrian Science Fund FWF and "unicum:mensch", an NGO at Salzburg University. This NGO wants to bridge the gap between university and humanitarian work.
The concept is simple:
edition:menschlichkeit is a series of publications according to the following principles:
- The series is financed by unicum:mensch.
- Each volume explores a humanitarian topic.
- Each volume is manufactured in collaboration with people who are excluded from the first job market.
- 100% of the price contributes to humanitarian work in connection with the topic.
These paperbacks come with a solid cover and a maximum of 100 printed pages. A book costs Euro 13, 60.
The first volume deals with the devastating tsunami in South Asia. It was presented during a charitable event at Salzburg University. 100% of the price supports two distinct, local projects of reconstruction.
The second volume is about female poverty in Austria and developed from a seminar called A Country of Rich Girls. About the Prevention of Female Poverty in Austria, in spring 2005 in Innsbruck's "Haus der Begegnung" (an educational institution by the Caritas). The money goes to the project "Sozialroutenplanerin", a map of Innsbruck that gives information to marginalised women on how to get social support from the government and other institutions.
The third volume, "Go Ask the Children!" deals with the value of education and supports an educational project in India [www.cope.in].
The fourth volume, "A Word without Feet Is Over-Heard by the Head", Aids, Africa and Respect for the Other, developed in cooperation with Caritas Innsbruck and supports one of their projects in West Africa.
The fifth volume is published in the February 2006 and is dedicated to work and unemployment.
Continually, four volumes are published every year with experts as well as affected people contributing just the same..
